I just saw a commercial with Stephen Harper sitting by himself talking about his son and how much he loved being a father.

My question to Stephen Harper.
Why are children in Canada still living in poverty? There are millions of fathers and mothers just like you who love their children more than life itself. In their eyes all children are equal, being such a loving father how can you allow any child to go hungry. Why was Campaign 2000 put into place and not achieved?

This House "seek(s) to achieve the goal of eliminating poverty among Canadian children by the year 2000".
— House of Commons, unanimous all-party resolution, November 24, 1989.

Campaign 200
0 Declaration:
"We are committed to promoting and securing the full implementation of the House of Commons Resolution of November 24, 1989."
— Commitment by National and Community Partners Campaign 2000, November 24, 1991.

Campaign 2000 has released the 2007 Report Card on Child and Family Poverty, revealing that 18 years after the 1989 all-party resolution of the House of Commons, the child poverty rate is exactly the same. Despite a growing economy, a soaring dollar and low unemployment, Statistics Canada data show:
788,000 children – 11.7% - live in poverty
A job alone is not enough. 41% of low-income children live in families where at least one parent works full-time all year, and the family still lives in poverty.
The risk of living in poverty is not the same for all children. Poverty hits children in racialized, First Nations and recent immigrant communities much more often.

The federal government can change this picture, as long as the budget dollars needed aren’t given away in general tax cuts. And Canadians want the government to act - 85% of Canadians believe that concrete government action can drastically reduce poverty.
It’s time for the federal government to step up to the plate with a comprehensive Poverty Reduction Strategy.

Campaign 2000 is one example.

Then we have the United Nations Millennium Development Goals One of the goals is to End Child Poverty In Canada. Why is Canada lagging behind. The agreement is to give .7% of the GNI

Poverty is a violation of human rights on a massive scale. In 2000 all members of the United Nations committed to "spare no effort" in tackling poverty by adopting the Millennium Declaration. Governments also launched the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to meet minimum targets to reduce poverty, hunger, illiteracy, discrimination against women, and environmental degradation by 2015.

But the pace of action is too slow. If we hold the present course, we will fail to meet these targets. And the poor will pay the price.

The Asian tsunami and other natural disasters since then have shown that Canadians, including the Canadian government, care deeply and react generously when the world is faced with humanitarian disasters. But short-term relief is not enough. We need a shift in national and international policies to eliminate poverty.

It's time for real action. Campaigns to end poverty have been launched world wide. If everyone who wants to end poverty speaks at the same time, world leaders will be forced to listen.
Canada's campaign to end poverty, Make Poverty History, calls for urgent and meaningful policy change.

I am asking Stephen Harper to explain how he intends to end child poverty in Canada and is he going to set solid goals to achieve this and follow through this time.
