Dear Linda,

The world feels a bit out of control. But through collective action, we can demand a fair result for people feeling the worst effects of this recession – including those living in extreme poverty – and by doing so have a positive long-term impact on the global economy.

With his unique position of global leadership, President Barack Obama has the ability to bring leaders together for a global solution. Can you add your name to our petition asking him to do so?

Petition:
Please advocate for the resources, reform, and regulation that developing countries need to weather the financial crisis.

To get out of this crisis, leaders need to think and act globally. We need new regulations and reforms to prevent a culture of greed from permeating international financial markets and institutions. And to weather this downturn, we need government spending to counteract the impact of the recession around the world – including developing countries. As of yet, leaders haven’t done enough to ensure that every nation can swiftly emerge from this downturn and to prevent another crisis like this in the future. That’s where we come in.

We’ll deliver the petition to President Obama before he leaves for the G20 Summit in London. Then we’ll have to hold our breath and wait, with the rest of the world, to see what comes out of this highly anticipated summit. But, at least this week, we still have a chance to make a difference.

Thank you,

Roxane Philson, ONE.org
