Make Poverty History
...to finally end Child Poverty in Canada! We're already 9 years behind schedule. Why should 637,000 Canadian children have to wait a minute longer?
It's time to act on Child Poverty
On November 24, 1989 Canada's House of Commons passed a resolution to end child poverty in Canada by the year 2000. Yet almost 1 Canadian child out of every 10 still lives in poverty - in one of the richest countries in the world. Shockingly, these figures don't even include First Nations and Inuit communities where 1 in every 4 children endures a life of poverty.
This November 24, Campaign 2000, our coalition partner dedicated to bringing an end to child poverty in Canada, will be releasing their National Report Card on Child & Family Poverty. It commemorates the 20th anniversary of the House of Commons resolution. Add your voice now to the call for all political parties to take action and keep the promise they made 20 years ago.
We encourage you to:
1. Email your MP now to urge them to say yes to the invitation they've received from Campaign 2000 to attend the November 24 MP Breakfast on Parliament Hill. You can use the wording in the letter we have suggested, or you can adapt it to suit your own feelings.
2. Tell your MP to support a new resolution that will finally have Parliament live up to its promise for a plan to eliminate poverty in Canada for all.
3. Urge your MP to support measures to give Canada's children a chance at a life of dignity and opportunity.
4. Show your support by using this "It's time to act on Child Poverty" graphic as your Facebook profile picture on November 24.
Many thanks on behalf of Canada's children and their families!
