About Professor Isaac Saney
The HFAC is delighted to welcome back to Hamilton Professor Isaac Saney. He will address the main theme of the public program, “Cuba: Continuity & Change”. In this lecture, he will speak to the massive economic and social reforms currently underway in Cuba, exploring these changes in the context of the continuity of the socialist project on the island.
Professor Saney is the current Co-Chair of the Canadian Network on Cuba, of which the HFAC is a member organization. He is on faculty at the College of Continuing Education, Dalhousie University, and an adjunct professor at the department of International Development Studies, Saint Mary’s University, both in Halifax, Canada.
His research interests are: Cuba, international political economy, ‘race’ and racism, and Black history in Nova Scotia, areas on which he regularly lectures and publishes. His teaching and lecturing have encompassed courses on Cuba, Caribbean political economy, law & human rights and African Canadian history. He has published articles in several journals & magazines on these themes.
He is the author of the highly acclaimed book Cuba: A Revolution In Motion(2004), which is being used in many university courses. The book has received - and continues to receive - excellent reviews. As a result, Isaac has lectured in, among other centers, New York City, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, San Jose, Palo Alto, Berkley, Newark, Oakland, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Victoria. He has also co-produced, with Mark Rushton, the highly successful documentary Sisters' & Brothers' Keeper: Cuba and Southern African Liberation, a moving chronicle of Cuba’s decisive role in the struggle to end racist rule in South Africa and in achieving the independence of Namibia.
