Dear Make Poverty History supporter,
We have a Vote to Make Poverty History lawn signs/poster waiting for you – they are free and a great way to make poverty an issue in this election.
You can pick up signs in Hamilton at:
Charlie West Restaurant Lounge
1686 Main St. West, Hamilton
Mon-Fri 11am-2am Sat-Sun - 10am-2am
Contact (905) 522-5595
Get one of these attention-grabbing posters and put it up in your window, tack it to your porch or stake it in your lawn.
We are not able to supply stakes, so if you want to use it as a lawn sign you will have to find a stake and get two signs so you can staple them on both sides.
We want to make the poverty issue visible in this election, especially in key swing ridings like the one you live in, and these “Vote for ME” lawn signs can help us do that.
If you can, take ten or twenty signs and distribute them to friends and neighbours as well as to local community centres, churches, health clinics, stores and local businesses. Pass this email on to friends who may want to pick up signs as well.
There are three colors and photos available, symbolizing that we are campaigning on global, domestic and Aboriginal poverty. You can see examples of the signs here.
Send us a picture of your sign!
Take a picture of your sign - on your lawn, in your window, with you or your friends in the picture, whatever you like - and send it to us at web@makepovertyhistory.ca Tell us who you are, and where the picture was taken and anything else you want to say - we'll post your picture on our site later in the week.
Help us to make poverty a key issue in this election – please get a lawn sign now. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Dennis Howlett

The white band is our symbol and expression of solidarity against poverty.
The Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP) is a the largest civil society alliance, composed of trade unions, community groups, faith groups, women and youth organisations, NGOs and other campaigners working together against poverty and inequality. Working in more than 30 countries, both rich and poor, the Campaign partners with a wide range of partners at the international and local level to inspire grassroots movements toward the achievement of the Goals.
Campaign 2000 which started in 1989, promised to end Child Poverty in Canada by the year 2000 Statistics from 2007 show that nothing has changed.
The numbers are exactly the same! The Millennium Development Goals are just over half way through Started in 2000, leaders of 189 countries signed the Millennium Declaration agreeing to do everything in their power to end poverty. They pledged to do this by achieving the Millennium Development Goals, a roadmap to end extreme poverty by 2015.
Still, every day, 50,000 people die as a result of extreme poverty and the gap between rich and poor people is increasing. Nearly half the world's population live in poverty, 70% are women. We have the power to change this.
Campaigners worldwide will STAND UP and TAKE ACTION to push their governments for more and better aid, debt cancellation, education for all boys and girls, healthcare, trade justice, gender equality and public accountability.
