SUSTAINABILITY AFFECTED.

Natural catastrophes such as hurricane storms, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and continental shifting represent basic functions in nature that are unpredictable forces at work with out notice. The consequences of human inaction to reduce our carbon foot print will also determine earth’s reaction without notice. Man is set in his old ways of doing business and survival but, if something extraordinary does happen like mass flooding in Pakistan or Australia man is terrified by sudden change and totally helpless when it comes to the power of mother nature. Climate change has no mercy, this can have an emotional, financial and spiritual impact on all races and cultural belief systems.

Data collected from the Bureau of Meteorology show that Australia’s rainfall total for 2010 was 690 mm, well above the long term norm of 465mm. 2010 was Australia’s wettest year since 2000 and the third wettest year since records started in 1900. Unusually heavy rainfalls were experienced in Queens land, New South Whales, the Northern Territory and Southern Australia. The most damaging floods occurred across Queens land in the final week of 2010.

Up to 200,000 people in Australia have been hit by fast flowing waters inundating 22 rural towns in the counties North East, this massive area is a disaster zone filled with polluted waters, diseases like cholera can easily spread, thousands of lives are at risk not having clean drinking water and sustainable living conditions. An increasing amount of poisonous snakes are also occupying these waters,’’ Climate Change’’ has to be taken seriously on all levels of government, climatic relief emergency teams and disaster sustainability programs should be set in place and funded at all times.

Queens land is losing up to $ 100 million dollars a day in coal exports because of the unprecedented floods, three river systems spilling across vast areas of the state have left 40 towns isolated and pretty much under water, flooding has affected more than 200,000 people and expected to cost billions of dollars in recovery, specialists arrived in helicopters to check the safety of power, water and sewage plants.

Another bizarre incident that I feel is caused by extreme climatic condition and change are birds falling dead from the sky showing signs of trauma. New Years 2011, millions of dead fish surfaced in Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay in the U.S., while similar unexplained fish deaths occurred across the world in Brazil and New Zealand. Cold water stress is believed to be the culprit, similar winter fish deaths were documented in 1976 and 1980.

January 5, 2011, 50 birds were found dead on the streets of Sweden, this news comes shortly after mysterious death reports inflicting fish and birds estimated in the thousands found days prior in Arkansas and Louisiana U.S.A. The cause of death is still unknown until viral and toxicological tests are done. I can only assume that this may actually be a bird virus spreading in certain flocks, a poisonous land or water toxin or just a natural phenomena caused by abrupt and extreme climate change conditions.

With all the imbalances seen in the environment for over the last five decades, toxic air pollution, oceanic water temperature fluxuations, human waste, farmland pesticide pollutants, oil spillages, and extreme changes in our climatic conditions lead me to believe that new super bug viruses continue to mutate and kill off species at random. Most species are not able to adapt rapidly to climate change, 50,000 species are going extinct yearly and this should be an alarming wake up call for humanity.
