Hello Linda,
Thanks for sending along the information on the banner events you held. To be quite honest, your banner was my favourite of the 70+ banners that came in – it very visually appealing and the photos show how much work you put into it! We used it at the events on parliament hill and the Feeding change event with politicians – d id you see the blog about the banner at http://blog.makepovertyhistory.ca/node/31 and the flickr account for all the banners at http://www.flickr.com/photos/21936483@N03/show/ ?
Update - World's Longest Banner Against Poverty
Submitted by SarahMohan on December 19, 2007 - 15:39.
More than 70 banners, created across Canada, are now on their way to join the world's largest Banner!
Go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/21936483@N03/show/ to see a slideshow of the banners (and be sure to enable showing of picture titles).
From Saint John to Victoria, communities created beautiful works of art, with thousands of signatures on them, to express their solidarity with the global movement to make poverty history. After using them in their communities for International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, the banners were sent in to the Make Poverty History Campaign office in Ottawa.
In Ottawa, they made their premiere at an event called Feeding Poverty, organized by a coalition of Canadian anti-poverty organizations in Ottawa on 26 November, where low-income citizens sat down to dinner with politicians to discuss their experiences with poverty and what they want politicians to do.
They were then used at a Rally on Development Aid on November 27th on Parliament Hill. This rally helped to get Canadian Senators to move Bill C-293, aka "the Better Aid Bill", moved to the next stage of consideration. To sign the petition in support of this Bill, which proposes to target all Canadian aid spending to poverty
